Eight bills, all of which were designed to restrict further immigration into the United States, were voted down yesterday by the House Committee on Immigration and Naturalization in executive session.
The final vote, it was learned, was passed by a narrow margin. The bills included one introduced by Representative Dies of Texas, which, if passed, would make a sixty per cent cut in all existing immigration quotas.
After the meeting of the committee, it was stated by member, that the bills were voted down only after a heated debate and strong division of opinion among the members of the committee.
