Representatives of Likud met with a delegation of the ultra-Orthodox Aguda Israel faction today to discuss the possibility of the latter joining a Likud-led coalition. The Aguda, which will have four seats in the new Knesset, indicated that it will not make such a move without the approval of its Council of Torah Sages.
Nevertheless, it laid down certain demands including a ban on men and women soldiers sharing the same accommodations at army installations, longer skirts for women soldiers, tighter restrictions on permits for Sabbath work and a ban on what the Aguda considers pornographic advertisements and films displaying sex and violence. Observers believe that whether or not the Aguda joins a Likud coalition it would support a Likud government in the Knesset.
