Mayor John V. Lindsay of New York will serve as honorary national chairman for the Memorial Forest For Iraqi Martyrs to be planted in Israel by the Jewish National Fund. The Mayor accepted the appointment at a City Hall conference with JNF leaders. The forest, according to Herman L. Weisman, president, and Dr. Milton Aron, executive vice president of JNF. will honor the memory of the Iraqi Jews executed by the Baghdad regime and “will ensure that the world will not soon forget the atrocities committed upon Jews in Iraq.” Mr. Lindsay declared that “the issues involved In the brutal extermination of these Iraqi Jews far transcend any political implications. This is a tragedy for all humanity.” Three New York businessmen, all natives of Iraq, will serve as co-chairmen of the committee. They are Stanley Nebi, Jacob Mukamal and Herbert Somekh.
