The following is a list of major terror attacks against Israel since the September 1993 signing of the Israeli-Palestinian Declaration of Principles on the White House. * April 6, 1994 – An explosive-laden car blows up an Israeli bus in Afula, killing eight and leaving more than 50 wounded. Hamas claims responsibility for the attack, saying that it came in retaliation for the Feb. 25, 1994, Hebron massacre. * April 7, 1994 – A Hamas terrorist opens fire with an Uzi submachine gun at a group of soldiers standing at a hitchhiking shelter at the Ashdod Junction. One Israeli is killed and four others wounded before the assailant is shot dead on the spot by Israeli soldiers who were waiting for a ride. * April 13, 1994 – A Hamas terrorist blows up a civilian bus in Hadera. Five Israelis are killed and 30 others are wounded. * Oct. 9, 1994 – Two Hamas terrorists open fire on a crowd of diners on Yoel Solomon Street, a pedestrian mall in the heart of Jerusalem, killing two and injuring 13. * Oct. 19, 1994 – A Hamas suicide bomber donates a bomb aboard a Dan bus traveling along Dizengoff Street in Tel Aviv’s shopping district. The bomb also rips apart a second bus traveling in the other direction. The bomber claims the lives of 22 people, wounds 42 others. * Nov. 11, 1994 – A terrorist riding a bicycle detonates a bomb near an army checkpoint some 200 yards from the entrance to the Netzarim settlement in the Gaza Strip. Islamic Jihad claims responsibility for the bombing, which kills three Israeli army reserve officers and wounds six Israelis and five Palestinians. * Jan. 22, 1995 – Two bombs are detonated minutes apart at the Beit Lid intersection between Netanya and the West Bank town of Tulkarm. At least 21 are killed and more than 60 wounded in the attack. Islamic Jihad claims responsibility. * April 9, 1995 – An Islamic Jihad terrorist drives his van into an Egged bus bear the Kfar Darom settlement in the Gaza Strip, blowing up the bus. Seven Israeli soldiers, along with American student Alisa Flatow, are killed in the bus explosion, which also leaves 30 wounded. Two hours later, a Hamas terrorist launches a similar attack on an Israeli convoy near the Netzarim settlement in Gaza, injuring nine people when he blows up an Israeli border police jeep. * July 24, 1995 – A suicide bomber blows up a Dan bus outside Tel Aviv’s 40-story Diamond Exchange, taking six lives and wounding 32 Hamas claims responsibility for the attack. * Aug. 21, 1995 – A Hamas suicide bomber detonates an explosion on the No. 26 bus in Jerusalem’s northern neighborhood of Ramat Eshkol, killing four people – including American Joan Davenny 47, of Woodbridge, Conn. – and injuring more than 100. * Nov. 2, 1995 – Two terrorists explode bombs a minute apart near two buses in nearby locations in the Gaza Strip. Eleven Israelis are lightly wounded in the first attack, none in the second. The attacks are believed to have come in retaliation for the Oct. 26, 1995, assassination of Islamic Jihad leader Fathi Shakaki in Malta. Islamic Jihad claims responsibility for both attacks. * Feb. 25, 1996 – A Hamas suicide bomber blows up a bus near Jerusalem’s central bus station, killing 24 people and wounding 49. Less than an hour later, a second Hamas bomb explodes at a soldiers’ hitchhiking station near Ashkelon, killing one Israeli and injuring 31. The attacks take place on the second anniversary of the Hebron massacre.
