An attempt to curtail the parliamentary representation of the national minorities in the Republic of Lithuania is made by the Lithuanian government with the enactment of a new election ordinance.

In a statement issued jointly by all the members of the cabinet, the government points out that the minority representatives in parliament were too dominant a factor in the political life of the country and that it became necessary to reduce the minorities’ representation from 14 to 5.
