Premier Galvanouskas and his Cabinet handed their resignation to President Stulginskis Saturday.
The resignation follows the division in the National Assembly on a confidence vote regarding the government’s policies ending in a tie, 38 members voting for and a similar number opposing.
Opponents of the government’s policy included members of the left wing and deputies representing the Jewish, Polish and German minority groups. Representatives of these groups were absent from the sessions for some two months following a conflict over the allocation of the votes cast during the recent election. They returned, however, forming an opposition bloc which finally sent Premier Galvanouskas’ Ministry to defeat.
