President Antanas Smetona figured prominently today in the anniversary celebration of Lithuania’s freedom held here by the Jewish Liberation Fighters.
In an impressive ceremony attended by a large crowd, the Republic’s president handed over his presidential seat to the Jewish organization’s banner. Services followed at the synagogue, which were attended by officials of the government and the army.
