Lloyd George Aids Jewish Philanthropic Endeavor

David Lloyd George, former British Prime Minister, will extend a helping hand to the philanthropic endeavors of the Jewish community of London, it was learned here today.

The former prime minister has consented to be present at a festival dinner given by the London Jewish hospital to be held at the Hotel Savoy on October 29. The purpose of the dinner is to raise the amount of £25,000 necessary for the completion of an extension building of the hospital.

LIPSKY STATES POSITION OF ZIONISTS IN J. D. C., ZIONIST CONTROVERSY

A statement of the Zionist position in the controversy between the Zionists and the leaders of the Joint Distribution Committee on the question of Palestine and relief, was made by Louis Lipsky, president of the Zionist Organization of America, at a meeting of the Palestine Chamber of Commerce in New York Thursday night. The meeting was held as a welcome to Judge Jacob S, Strahl, who returned from a trip to Europe.

Declaring that the Zionists uphold Palestine’s supremacy in all Jewish activities, Mr. Lipsky said:

“In this controversy, as a matter of fact, the Zionist position in this country has been so clear from the very beginning, that it is surprising that in the middle of the proceedings it has become confused and muddy through the process of discussion and partisan debate.

“The fact is that the instinct of every Zionist was favorable to the relief. The instinct of every Zionist dictated to him that in the Jewish relief movement new features were to be introduced, a new understanding of the problem was to be brought in. A feeling of sympathy and interest from every point of view was to be brought in that connected with this relief the question of the rebuilding of Palestine, but when the Zionists felt that the relief movement became a movement which excluded the conception of the rebuilding of Palestine and that it was paramount to the building of an organization that was for the establishment of the Jewish home, naturally friction of all sorts and all sicknesses that go with the assertion of an illogical idea in Jewish life, as talk of constructive relief without taking in consideration within that conception the ideal of building the Jewish National home, arose. In spite of that the Zionists throughout the country went into the relief and helped the relief in every city, and they simply said, we want this idea which is being introduced in the relief–opposition to the colonization in Palestine–to be soft-pedaled, quieted down, and that has been the position of the Zionist Movement from the start,” Mr. Lipsky stated.
