Commander Oliver Locker-Lampson, as leader of the only British unit which fought with Rumanians during the war, telegraphed King Carol today protesting against the persecution of minorities under the new Goga government.

Commander Locker-Lampson, a Conservative Member of Parliament, said “Goga is making it difficult for Englishmen to go on wearing Rumanian medals, and supporters of Your Majesty look to you to restore those liberties in your land for which the armies of our two countries successfully combatted.”

The Manchester Guardian reports from Geneva that because the Rumanian representative in the League Council is rapporteur on mandates an attempt is being made to bring pressure on Zionists and the World Jewish congress not to raise the question of treatment of Rumanian Jews. It seems unlikely that the pressure will succeed, the dispatch adds, but in view of the Rumanian Government’s anti-Semitism many doubt whether a question intimately concerning the Jews, such as Palestine, should be left in Rumanian hands.

Complete elimination of Jews from Rumania was declared necessary by Zelea Codreanu, Iron Guard leader, in an interview with a correspondent of the Daily Herald. Where the Jews go, he is quoted as stating, is a problem for “all nations, who must find a territory for them.”
