At a stormy meeting of the Hampstead Borough Council today, Labor and Liberal members attacked the mayor and 300 other signers of a petition which urged the forced repatriation of refugees now living in England.
Charging the mayor with “fascist and anti-Semitic tendencies,” the council adopted a resolution charging that the signatories of the petition “were taking the first step on the road to Belsen.” It stressed that repatriation of aliens cannot be pursued without discrimination and disregard for the many considerations involved.
