The Foreign Office announced officially here today that Britain and the United Arab Republic have agreed to resume full diplomatic relations, and will establish full embassies in each other’s capitals. The Foreign Office spokesman said the agreement, which ends the London-Cairo disputes resulting from the Franco-British assault on the Suez Canal in 1956, was negotiated recently at the United Nations between the Earl of Home, Britain’s Foreign Secretary, and Dr. Mahmoud Fawzi, the Foreign Minister of the UAR.
(At the United Nations it was revealed today that Harold Beely, deputy chairman of Britain’s permanent mission to the UN, is expected to be named London’s new Ambassador to Cairo.)
