Chief Rabbi Dr. Israel Brodie of England today sent a cable to the Chief Rabbinate of Israel declaring that “many rabbis” in England will support the stand taken by the Chief Rabbis of Israel on the National Service Bill for Women.
“I am gravely perturbed by the reports of the strife regarding the draft of the bill for national conscription of women,” the cable said. “I wish to express sympathy and support of your stand. I speak in the name of many rabbis in this country, including Haham Gaon and the London Beth Din (Rabbinical Court) who pray for unity, peace and security in the Holy Land.”
The world executive of Agudas Israel today announced that a delegation of rabbis will visit Israel Ambassador Eliahu Elath here “to discuss the situation which has arisen in Israel in relation to the proposed conscription of Jewish religious women for national service.”
