The Soviet Union is pouring weapons into Syria and other Arab states to strengthen its growing influence in the area, diplomatic sources here reported today. The sources asserted that munitions were arriving in the area at a rate reminiscent of the USSR’s heavy arms shipments to the area in the 1950’s, prior to the 1956 Suez clash. The Soviet equipment was reported to include tanks, guns, planes and rockets. The recipients in addition to Syria, were reported to include Egypt and Iraq.
