London Jews Subscribe to Judea Industrial Corp.

The amount of $10,000 was subscribed by a group of London Jews to the Judea Industrial Corporation, a company which controls the Judea Insurance Company in Palestine and which was organized by the American Zionist fraternal order, Order Sons of Zion.

The subscriptions were made at a private gathering held in the home of Mr. Hassatassin, prominent London Zionist, following an address by Judge Jacob Strabl of New York City, who described the activities of the Judea Insurance Company.

Joseph M. Lewis, President of the Free-thinkers’ Society of New York, protested to Mayor Walker against the use of municipal broadcasting station, WNYC, for broadcasting religious services. He said that a Yom Kippur musical service with religious songs by Cantor Sol Fuchs had been put on the air by the city’s station.

“If we permit one religious organization to use the municipal broadcasting station,” said Mr. Lewis, “then we are in duty bound to let all religious organizations broadcast their services. This, as you know, would lead to a disastrous state of affairs.”

Albert Goldman, Commissioner of Plant and Structures, said he considered this complaint to be ill-founded.

“We are broadcasting musical programs, including religious music,” he said. “For instance, nearly every broadcasting station in the country broadcasts Easter services. Music is non-sectarian. I would not permit a sectarian sermon to be preached through WNYC, but I cannot see any objection to religious music.”
