Colonel Sir Charles Albert Batho, the Lord Mayor of London, accompanied by sheriffs and several aldermen, attended Friday evening services at the Great Synagogue. He was received by Lionel Rothschild and Ernst Schiff. It was the first time that a Lord Mayor attended synagogue services without a state purpose, a celebration or for the object of worshipping there.
