The death of Willie Clarkson, known throughout Europe as a theatrical costumer and England’s most famous maker of wigs, is being mourned in theatrical circles here. He was seventy-three years old.
Of Jewish descent, Clarkson was a convert to Christianity. During his sixty years of connection with the stage it was said of Clarkson that he became more famous than many of the actors and actresses whom he decked in his costumes and gowns. Scarcely a first class production in the past half century has failed to list on its programs the phrase “Wigs by Clarkson.”
