Lord Robert Cecil, British representative to the Seventh Assembly of the League of Nations, issued a statement here yesterday to the press on the differences of opinion between the League Council and the Permanent Mandates Commission following the action of the League to support the Commission.
In his statement, Lord Cecil declares that the criticism directed against the Permanent Mandates Commission was merely a warning against the possibility of the Mandates Commission exceeding its powers. In reality, the Permanent Mandates Commission was not the object of any criticism. Its work and its attitude were warmly appreciated, but it was necessary to call the attention of the members of the Mandates Commission to the difficulties which might arise in certain circumstances which would make the position of the Mandates Commission more delicate and even more difficult.
