Lord Melchett, formerly Sir Alfred Mond, member of the Joint Palestine Survey Commission, will arrive today in New York on the steamer Homeric.

In an interview with the representative of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency on board the steamer Lord Melchett expressed his opinion that if and when the Jewish Agency is created “its functions are to be confined to strictly political matters. It should not take over executive obligations similar to those now held by the Zionist Executive.

“It is always important to remember,” Lord Melchett continued, “that the future of the Jewish Agency depends mainly on the attitude of the British Government.”

Speaking on the question of the recommendations of the Joint Palestine Survey Commission, Lord Melchett stated that he believes that these recommendations should be carried into effect immediately, without waiting for the consummation of the Jewish Agency.
