Lord Nathan, one of Britain’s outstanding Jews, one-time Minister of Civil Aviation and former Undersecretary of State for War, was elected today as chairman of the Royal Society of Arts. He has been a member of the society’s Council since 1953.
Lord Nathan, who is 72, is a member of the governing body of the Weizmann Institute of Science, at Rehovoth, Israel; active in the leadership of the European Committee for the Maccabiab Games; and chairman of the Isaac Wolfson Foundation. Prior to his elevation to the peerage, he was a Member of Parliament, first representing the Liberal Party, later affiliated with the Labor Party. He is also president of the Royal Geographical Society.
