Lord Reading Dies in London; Was Active in Jewish Affairs

Gerald Rufus Isaacs, Lord Reading, a former Minister of State and active in Jewish affairs, died while on vacation in Rhodes at the age of 71.

The son of the First Marquis of Reading, who was Viceroy of India and British Lord Chief Justice, the Second Lord Reading was Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs from 1951 to 1953 when he was named Minister of State in the Conservative Government, He remained in this post until 1957.

Lord Reading was a former president of the Jewish Colonization Association and had served as chairman of the Council for German Jewry in 1938-39. He was a member of the Council of the Weizmann Institute Foundation and a director of the Palestine Electric Corporation.
