Deep appreciation for the excellent performance of his office is being expressed by the Indian press and political leaders of the Earl of Reading, the former Isaac Rufus, viceroy of India, on the expiration of his term.
The Earl and Lady Reading are now completing a tour through India, before their return to England early in April. Farewell receptions are being arranged in the cities of India, where his work in pacifying the country and his understanding of the needs of the population in India are praised.
A group of women from all the important communities in India have presented Lady Reading with a string of pearls as a token of their esteem and affection.
JACOB P. ADLER, NOTED JEWISH ACTOR, DIES
Jacob P. Adler, well known Jewish actor, died in New York yesterday at the age of 77.
Mr. Adler was the dean of Yiddish actors in America. He began his career in Odessa, Russia. In 1887 he came to America and soon became the leading figure on the Yiddish stage. Some ten years ago he created a sensation when he played Shylock in Yiddish with an American company in a Broadway theatre.
