Lord Winterton, chairman of the Intergovernmental Committee for Refugees, today resigned from the Committee as a result of the change in the British Government brought about by the recent elections.
Lord Winterton held the post of chairman of the Intergovernmental Committee since 1938. He was the head of the British Delegation to the Evian Conference in August 1938, at which the Intergovernmental Committee was formed upon the initiative of President Roosevelt, to aid in the saving of the Jews of Nazi Germany.
