A plan designed to integrate a number of suburban areas with the central organization of the Los Angeles Jewish community has been adopted by the Los Angeles Jewish Community Council’s board of directors. The plan, which has been under study for almost two years, calls for the setting up of coordinating councils on the community level to cope with local Jewish needs and problems.
The first of the local coordinating councils will be established in the San Fernando Valley, following talks with leaders of the San Fernando Valley Council of Jewish Organizations, spokesman for all Valley Jewish charitable, fraternal, religious and social institutions. It will be followed by councils to be set up in San Gabriel Valley and other suburban areas.
In approving the new set-up, the LAJCC board voted to adopt a policy governing suburban community organization. Under this policy, local coordinating councils are to be set up under the LAJCC with members of the council limited to institutional members of the LAJCC in that area; and coordinating councils are to have professional guidance, enjoy ex-officio representation on the LAJCC board, and are to set up committees corresponding to the existing LAJCC committees with which they will be in liaison.
