Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan joined some 60 celebrities and area business executives on Wednesday in launching Koreh LA: The Los Angeles Jewish Coalition for Literacy. The effort by the Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles’s Jewish Community Relations Committee, which takes its name from the Hebrew word for “read,” is part of the national Jewish communal response to President Clinton’s “America Reads Challenge” aimed at promoting literacy in all American children by the third grade.
