Officials of Sinai Temple announced today that a rare leaf from the 600-year-old Gutenberg Bible, a gift from a collector of rare books and manuscripts, will go on display during the Temple’s Festival of Dedication here February 12-19.
The priceless leaf was one of seven Bible items given to the Temple for its permanent library by Samuel D. Steinberg of Los Angeles. The leaf is from the Book of Genesis and comes from one of only 12 known copies of the Bible printed from movable type in Mainz, Germany, by Gutenberg, inventor of the process.
