As a result of a secession movement on the part of the Communist faction, the Arbeiter Ring, or Workmen’s Circle, Jewish radical fraternal organization, lost 2,516 members last year. This was the statement made at the semi-annual meeting of the National Board of Directors of the Workmen’s Circle held last week in New York, by M. Haskell, chairman of the Organization Committee, who declared that although the Arbeiter Ring has suffered a loss in membership the resignation of the Communist element has relieved the order of an undesirable element.
The loss in membership by the Arbeiter Ring during the past year was also attributed to the general unemployment crisis in the country, which has made it difficult for many members to pay their bills. At the meeting reports were also rendered of the Workmen’s Circle Sanitarium for Consumptives in Liberty, N. Y., and of the progress of the Women’s and Youth branches of the Order.
