Louis H. Sobel, who recently returned from a ten-month trip through Latin America for the Joint Distribution Committee, was named Assistant Secretary of the J.D.C. at a meeting of its executive committee yesterday, it was announced today by Joseph C. Hyman, executive vice-chairman.
Mr. Sobel, formerly executive director of the Federation Employment Service, has been with the J.D.C. since November 1942. He spent several months at the J.D.C.’s European headquarters in Lisbon. During his recent stay in South America, he investigated the progress made by the 112,000 refugees who have found havens there and coordinated the welfare work of the J.D.C. on their behalf with the local committees in ten of the countries on the continent.
