A gift of $10,000 each from Louis Marshall, president of the American Jewish Committee, and Aaron Waldheim of St. Louis, to the Hebrew Union College Endowment Fund was announced here.
The campaign for the $5,000,000 Endowment Fund for the Hebrew Union College reached $3,550,000 on June 15. In making the announcement Adolph S. Ochs, chairman of the committee, stated he is hopeful that the $450,000 still required by July 1 to make secure Mr. Rosenwald’s $500,000 will be forth-coming, Accompanying his subscription for $50,000. Max Adler, of Chicago, wrote: “Mrs. Adler, as well as myself, have been modest contributors to the Hebrew Union College for a number of years, but were not fully conscious of what the Hebrew Union College stands for in America and realized only after listening to Mr. Ochs that it is the one great institution of which all Jews in America should be proud.
“To make possible further improvement in its already high standard and general conditions, a substantial endowment fund is an absolute necessity.
“It is remarkable what the Hebrew Union College has achieved during the past fifty-three years with the limited funds at its command, and with a substantial Endowment Fund, we visualize a greater and more powerful Jewish institution, international in its influence.
“We sincerely trust that every Jew in this country will be impelled to contribute to the Endowment Fund.”
