A reply to the criticism voiced in many Jewish journals, of the Jewish Colonization Association (Ica), was made here today by Mr. Louis Oungre, director of the Ica, in an interview with the correspondent of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency.
"Much criticism has recently been directed against the Jewish Colonization Association," Mr. Oungre stated. "We do not shrink from criticism: we welcome it, if it is justified. Nothing is perfect in this world. Unfortunately, however, much of the criticism is entirely unjustified. This the Ica can disregard, knowing that it is doing its work in complete loyalty to its obligations and in accordance with the wishes of its founder.
"Baron Hirsch," he stated, "founded the Ica during his lifetime. He was its first president and until he died, directed its policy. It was therefore unnecessary to wait until his will would lay down the program of the Ica. The recent publication of the text of his will in the Jewish press in the United States confirms this policy," he declared.
