About 200 senior rabbinical students of the Lubavitch movement left New York this week to begin their annual Torah-spreading mission to hundreds of communities in the United States, Canada and Latin America. Their sojourn is part of the Lubavitch summer “Peace Corps” program, which is in its 24th year of operation.
The 200 represent a doubling in the number of activists over last year as a result of a recent call by the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem M. Schneersohn, founder of the program, appealing to his followers to reach out to the Jewish masses with greater seal to help bring them back to authentic Judaism.
