Judge Benjamin N. Cardozo, Chief Judge of the Court of Appeals and Prof. Nathan Isaacs of the Harvard Law School will speak on “Jewish Law in Modern Civilization” at a luncheon at the Hotel Astor on May 4.
The luncheon is being arranged by the Lawyers’ Committee which was formed to create and maintain a Department of Jurisprudence at the Hebrew University in Palestine under the sponsorship of Jewish lawyers practicing in the United States. It is intended to provide necessary professorships and an extensive legal library for research work and for the development of a modern system of jurisprudence based on historic Hebrew sources. Max Levy of No. 250 West 57th Street, is chairman of the committee and Louis Lande is secretary.
