The old Church of St. Mark, where a German Evangelical Lutheran congregation has worshipped for 90 years, will become a synagogue and a social, athletic and cultural center for neighborhood Jewish youth on Jan. 2. The church was sold by its congregation to the Community Synagogue Center, Inc. The sale was the result of population shifts which steadily diminished the number of persons of German origin in the area.
