American Jewry is becoming increasingly aware of the importance of industrial and agricultural training as a means toward a permanent solution for the distress of the refugees and needy masses in Europe and this year is contributing more than ever to the ORT, which conducts such a program, Dr. David Lvovitch, vice-president of the World ORT Union, said last night at a farewell dinner given by American ORT Federation directors at Midston House.
Dr. Lvovitch, a lawyer and economist, sails for his home in Paris Saturday on the Champlain after a six-month stay during which he visited a number of cities to speak in be half of ORT. “The reports that foreign countries will admit skilled workers and farmers,” he said, “emphasize the soundness of the 59-year-old ORT program of re-directing the occupational life of European Jews by diverting them from the insecure pursuits of petty trading and peddling to a productive existence in artisanship and agriculture.”
