Neither Colonial Office nor Novomejsky make Statements (Jewish Telegraphic Agency)
All that could be ascertained concerning the report that the concession to exploit the salts of the Dead Sea has been granted by the British Colonial Office was to the effect that the tenders of continental European and American companies for the concession have been definitely rejected by the Colonial Office.
Speculation which was aroused by the report of the London Sunday Times continued when the Colonial Office declined to issue an official statement and when Sir Alfred Mond denied that his company, the Imperial Chemical Industries, had obtained the concession. It is stated, however, that the concession has been granted to M. Novemejsky, the Russian Zionist who made the first application. Mr. Novomejsky, however, declared himself unable to make an official statement before the contract is signed.
The Jewish Telegraphic Agency learns that Sir Alfred Mond is interested in the plan. His cooperation will be forthcoming when the contract with Novomejsky is signed and when the possibility of extracting potash on a paying basis is proved.
