The Czechoslovak Maccabi sports organization, which has long “been active here, has been absorbed into the Sokol, the only sports group now authorized by the Czechoslovak Government, it was announced here today.
Negotiations between leaders of the Maccabi and the Sokol resulted in an agreement whereby the Jewish group will be permitted to carry on its special program within the framework of the Sokol. During the talks, the Sokol officials expressed great interest in the aims of the Maccabi organization.
Previously the local Maccabi groups were modeled after the Sokol whose instructors were employed almost exclusively by the Jews. According to the new agreement absorbing the Maccabi into the Czech organization, all Maccabi leaders will be provided with a special education.
