The Manchester City Council will be asked tomorrow to approve the expenditure of nearly $3,000 to pay 26 compensstion claims filed by the owners of property dameged during anti-Semitic demonstrations in the city last August. Under the law, the police authority is liable for componsation claims in caees where damage results from a riot.
The possibility of a split in the Jowish community of Britain over the appointment of a new Chief Rabbi of the Brinish Ehpire was averted this week-end at a special meeting of representatives of the United Synagogue and various other synagogual bodies. A special committee was appointed, with representation given to all groups, to study and report on the duties of the Chiof Rabbi and methods of financing his office.
