Strong condemnation of the Osage, W. Va., school dynamiting Monday was voiced here by six major national Jewish organizations. The American Jewish Congress, Jewish Labor Committee, Jewish War Veterans, Union of American Hebrew Congregations, Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America and United Synagogue of America joined in a statement that was released by the National Community Relations Advisory Council.
The statement expressed “horrified and indignant outrage” at the dynamiting, noting that since integration white and Negro pupils in a ratio of about three to one had attended the school without incident or trouble of any kind.” The assault upon it is not only an atrocious act of vandalism and terror; it is a dark blow at the spirit of law and the decent instincts of men,” it added. It also called for study “whether or not any connection exists between this depradation and earlier bombings of schools, synagogues, churches and homes.”
