The Israel Embassy announced here today that Mordechal Louk, the man who was rescued by the Italian authorities when Egyptian diplomats tried to smuggle him to Cairo in a trunk, had expressed a wish to return to Israel. The Embassy statement said that Louk had met with an Israeli Consul and had said that he was “ready to submit himself to Israeli law.” He also declared he was satisfied with the treatment by Italian police.
In an editorial published in today’s Corriere della Sera, the paper said that the Egyptian Government has been practicing for many years “this type of diplomacy,” In Middle Eastern countries, the paper said, Egyptian diplomats, particularly military attaches, have perpetrated all sorts of abuses. “When discovered, they invoke diplomatic immunity and leave. Probably they just change their names and go to another place to continue their trade in some other country.”
