At the meeting of the Council of the League of Nations today, M. Branting (Sweden) asked several questions with regard to the precise position of mandated territories of the “A” Class, countries formerly part of the Ottoman Empire. What should be the part of the Council of the League of Nations under Article 3 of the Treaty of Lausanne in regard to those territories?
Lord Parmoor, the British Representative, replied that the British Government considers that the Council is in the position of an arbitrator in regard to the observance of the stipulations of the Treaty of Lausanne.
The Jewish Telegraphic Agency Representative here learns that the October meeting of the Permanent Mandates Commission of the League of Nations will, for the first time, examine very closely the reports of the Mandatory Powers administering the Mandates of the “A” Class, this being the first meeting of the Commission since the entry into force of the Lausanne Treaty, by which the mandated territories become Legally detached from the Ottoman Empire. Both the French and the British representatives will be asked questions by the members of the Commission on the subject of their Reports on the administration of these mandated territories, Palestine and Iraq (British) and Syria and the Lebanon (Frence)
