Jewish Newspaperman Named Press Attache to Legation in Washington (Jewish Telegraphic Agency)
As the signs of a rising anti-Jewish agitation in various parts of Roumania in connection with the political excitement of the approaching elections are accumulating, severe measures of a preventive and punitive nature are announced by the government.
At a conference with newspaper representatives, Prime Minister Maniu stated in unmistakable terms that his government will not tolerate the anti-Semitic demonstrations planned for Sunday.
The official press bureau at Czernowitz issued a communique stating that the authorities are taking measures against the renewed anti-Semitic campaign carried on by the followers of Alexander Cuza in Bukowina. It is charged that the Cuzists have received financial support from the Averescu partisans for the distribution of anti-Semitic pamphlets in which Roumanian Christians are urged to vote against the government list because it contains the names of Jewish candidates.
