WIDESPREAD ANTI-JEWISH DISORDERS IN WHICH MANY WERE INJURED AND CONSIDERABLE PROPERTY DAMAGE WROUGHT WERE REPORTED HERE TODAY WHILE BOYCOTT AGITATION CONTINUED TO GROW IN MANY PARTS OF THE COUNTRY.
POLES AND UKRAINIANS DEMOLISHED JEWISH STALLS IN THE MARKET PLACE AT WIELKOCZ NEAR LWOW, BEAT THEIR OWNERS AND BROKE WINDOWS OF JEWISH HOUSES. THEY ATTACKED THE RABBI OF THE TOWN AND DESTROYED HIS HOUSE. MANY JEWS FLED IN PANIC TO LWOW IN FEAR OF FURTHER EXCESSES.
FOURTEEN JEWS WERE BEATEN IN ROZAN WHERE RIOTERS ALSO BROKE WINDOWS OF JEWISH HOMES. JEWISH PEDESTRIANS WERE ATTACKED AND ONE OF THEM SERIOUSLY INJURED IN HIELC BY ANTI-SEMITES WHO BROKE WINDOWS OF A SYNAGOGUE AND ALSO OF THE HOME OF A POLE WHO OPPOSED ESTABLISHING A “GHETTO MARKET” FOR JEWS.
MANY JEWISH FAMILIES FLED TO NEIGHBORING TOWNS FROM TOMHI IN THE BIALYSTOK DISTRICT AFTER RECURRENT ATTACKS BY ANTI-SEMITIC NATIONAL RADICALS IN WHICH JEWS WERE STONED, BEATEN AND OTHERWISE TERRORIZED. THOSE REMAINING RECEIVED LETTERS WARNING THEM TO LEAVE IMMEDIATELY.
ANTI-JEWISH EXCESSES WERE PREVENTED IN LOMZA BY COMBINED EFFORTS OF POLISH AND JEWISH WORKERS. THE SOCIALIST PARTY AND THE TRADES UNION COUNCIL APPEALED TO WORKERS AND PEASANTS NOT TO PERMIT EXCESSES WHILE THE BUND (JEWISH SOCIALIST PARTY) APPEALED TO THE JEWS AGAINST PANIC. THE WORKERS DECLARED A HALF-DAY GENERAL STRIKE IN PROTEST AGAINST ANTI-SEMITIC AGITATION, FORCING THE ANTI-SEMITES TO WITHDRAW FROM THE STREETS. POLICE CONFISCATED SOCIALIST LEAFLETS AND ARRESTED TWO BUND MEMBERS.
A JEWISH LAWYER, JOSEPH GARTENBERG, WAS STABBED IN THE TOWN OF DROHOBYCZ, EAST GALICIA. HIS CONDITION WAS REPORTED CRITICAL. DISORDERS OCCURRED IN OSMIANY IN THE WILNO DISTINCT AND ALSO IN WILNO, WHERE THREE ARRESTS WERE MADE.
IN SEVERAL TOWNS IN THE BIALYSTOK PROVINCE NATIONAL RADICALS DROVE JEWS OUT OF MARKET PLACES. IN ONE TOWN MANY JEWS WERE BEATEN BEFORE POLICE RESTORED ORDER.
TWENTY-TWO JEWS WERE BEATEN, SEVERAL OF THEM BEING SERIOUSLY INJURED, IN BYDGOSZCZ, FORMERLY BROMBERG, POMERANIA. THE ANTI-JEWISH BOYCOTT WAS INTENSIFIED IN THIS TOWN, WITH PICKETS BARRING CUSTOMERS FROM JEWISH SHOPS. SIMILAR BOYCOTTS WERE BEING WAGED IN KOZIGLOW IN THE WARSAW DISTRICT AND STAWSK IN THE BIALYSTOK DISTRICT.
FIVE JEWISH PASSERS-BY WERE WOUNDED BY ANTI-SEMITIC NATIONAL DEMOCRATS IN MARLKINIA IN THE BIALYSTOK DISTRICT. IN KRASNYSTAW, IN THE LUBLIN DISTRICT, SCHOOL CHILDREN PARTICIPATED IN ANTI-JEWISH ATTACKS IN WHICH SEVERAL PERSONS WERE INJURED AND ONE REMOVED TO THE HOSPITAL.
A NATIONAL RADICAL STUDENT, JERZI GLOWACKY, WAS SENTENCED TO A YEAR’S IMPRISONMENT AND A CHEMIST, WAZLA WAKOWSKI TO TEN MONTHS BY A WARSAW COURT FOR ARRANGING BOMB ATTACKS. ANOTHER STUDENT, MARIAN MITOUSKI, WAS ACQUITTED FOR LACK OF EVIDENCE.
