In many cities special radio broadcasting programs stressing brotherhood have been announced. From station WMCA an international choral program will be broadcast for the first time and will be participated in by the Y. M. C. A. Negro Chorus, the Y. M. H. A. Hebrew Choir and the Catholic Boys’ Club. The program will be on the air from 9:30 to 10 o’clock tonight.
This afternoon at 12:30 o’clock Rabbi William F. Rosenblum of Temple Israel here will speak over station WNAC, Boston, and a New England network on the subject of “Children of Men.” A Brotherhood Day educational symposium will be broadcast over station WEVD from New York in which the speakers will be Miss Rhoda McCulloch, editor of the Woman’s Press; Monsignor John L. Belford of Brooklyn and Rabbi Jacob J. Weinstein of New York. Similar programs will be broadcast from many parts of the country.
The observance of Brotherhood Day has been endorsed by President Roosevelt and the Governors of ten States who in several instances have issued special proclamations calling upon all citizens to join in active observance of Brotherhood Day. The Chief Executives of Ohio, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, California, Oregon and Illinois have acted to promote observance of the event.
In addition to observance of brotherhood Day by churches, synagogues, clergy groups, women’s clubs, fraternal organizations and similar bodies, many national organizations will join in the occasion. The Jewish Welfare Board, the national organization of the Y. M. H. A.s, Y. W. H. A.s and Jewish Community Centers, is promoting the observance among its constituent societies and centers.
The Y. M. C. A. is holding observances in its various branches throughout the country. The International Order B’nai B’rith, the largest Jewish fraternal order in the world, is promoting the observance today in all its affiliated lodges, under the national direction of Senator Alfred M. Cohen of Cincinnati, president of the order, and Richard Gudstadt of Chicago, director of the Anti-Defamation League of the B’nai B’rith.
The World Alliance for International Friendship Through the Churches is likewise sponsoring many observances under the direction of Dr. Henry A. Atkinson, executive secretary. The Amateur Athletic Union of the United States was to join in the observance Saturday night, stressing the Brotherhood Day note in the national track and field championships at Madison Square Garden.
