What is regarded here as the Palestine Government’s definite policy to hamper Jewish tourist traffic was displayed today when 60 Jewish tourists were refused admission. They were not permitted to leave the steamer, though possessing proper Palestine visas.
This is the second case during the week. The first affected a group of 23 from Poland, who arrived via Beirut. All held proper Palestine visas obtained from the British Consulate at Istanbul. The whole group of 23, including women, are now in the Haifa jail. They are being badly treated and are facing deportation, the Palestine Government contending that they should have obtained their Palestine visas in Warsaw and not in Istanbul.
The Jewish Agency’s intervention so far has been without effect, the Government holding that the tourists proposed to remain in Palestine permanently.
