The first Mapam kibbutz on the Golan Heights, the 25th settlement on the Heights, was inaugurated Tuesday in the presence of thousands of kibbutz members, Housing Minister Avraham Ofer and Jewish Agency and Mapam leaders, G Shor, the name of the kibbutz, is Mapam’s 76th kibbutz.
Nathan Peled, secretary of the Mapam-sponsored Hakibbutz Haartzi movement, said at the inauguration of the settlement that Mapam has decided to participate in the creation of a defense belt on the Golan Heights to protect the settlements in northern Israel. G Shor is comprised of young kibbutzniks and a group of individual Mapam members who joined to form a nucleus for the settlement. It was announced that Hakibbutz Haartzi will develop another kibbutz soon on the Heights near G Shor.
