Brandeis University today announced the appointment of Marc Chagall to its faculty as the first Jack I. Poses artist-in-residence. Chagall, one of the world’s greatest living artists, will execute a ceramic composition mural in the new library on the Waltham campus. He will assume his new post at Brandeis in January 1960.
Brandeis Trustee Poses, a New York art collector and president of D’Orsay Perfumes, created the new artist-in-residence program earlier this year with a $250,000 grant to the university. Resident artists in this program will work at Brandeis for from two months to a semester. Although they will not teach in formal classes, they will be available for students and faculty to meet with and study at work.
