“The message of Rosh Sashonah this year is one of renewed hope and renewed faith,” said Rabbi William Margolis of Congregation Ohab Zedek in an address over radio station WINS yesterday, under the auspices of the Religious Reconstruction Committee of the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations.
“We call upon our fellow Jews to raise those hanging heads and quicken those sluggish steps,” said Rabbi Margolis. “Return to the synagogues with heart and with hand. Reconstruct the crumbling foundation of Jewish institutional life in this country. Be proud of Jewish achievements that are real and live and which presage the growth of a healthy, militant Jewish generation.
“Nothing has suffered more in recent years than the pride of the Jew in Judaism. I do not refer to that vociferous kind of pride which comes in racous accents from the lips of inert, inactive Jews. I mean the kind of pride which the active Jew feels when he points with joyful participation to Jewish progress.”
