The appointment of Dr. Samuel Margoshes, editor of The Day, as chairman of the Commission on Organization of the American Jewish Congress was announced yesterday by Dr. Stephen S. W#se, president.
An intensive organizational campaign to extend the Congress movement in a number of the larger Jewish communities of the East and Middle West will be conducted in the course of the next six weeks, according to a decision reached at the initial meeting of the organization commission.
Provisional committees will be set up in each of the communities to function until the Fall, when democratic city-wide conventions will be held for the election of permanent officers and the formulation of the basic program of the various units.
A sub-committee has been named to prepare a constitution for the local Congress units which will establish the functions of the latter and regulate their relationship within the national organization.
