The twentieth anniversary of the first Yiddish language conference held here, at which Yiddish was proclaimed as a national language of East European Jewry, was marked here, at a conference of Jewish writers and publicists.
Among thase present were Salman Reisin, Noah Priluzky and Dr. Shabat of Poland Messages of greetings were received from Dr. Chaim Szitlowski of New York, Sholom Asch, and others, in which it was emphasized that Yiddish is now enjoying the status of a living, cultural language.
Hugo Weisgal, fifteen-year-old boy who came to this country eight years ago, has been awarded the Boise memorial harmony schoiarship at the Peabody Conservatory of Music, Baltimore. Md. according to an announcement by Otto Ortmann, director of the school.
Weisgal is a student in the senior class at the Baltimore City College. His father, Rabbi Adolph J. Weisgal, is the cantor of the synagogue of the Chizuk Amuno Congregation. The scholarship is for three years’ study at the school.
