Coincident with the celebration this month of the sixtieth anniversary of the founding of the Province of Manitoba and its entry into the Dominion of Canada, there is also being celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of the entrance of the first Jew into Manitoba.
On July 31, 1880, Reuben Goldstein came to this province, and in his wake followed many other Jews who established themselves in Manitoba as farmers, homesteaders, workers, business men, manufacturers and traders. Today there are twenty thousand Jews living in the province of Manitoba.
