A mass rally took place today in Natan Phillips Square at City Hall here to support the cause of Syrian Jews, particularly Saymon Khadas, a 16-year-old boy denied medical treatment for a congenital heart disease. The Syrian government has refused Khadas an exit visa even though the Damascus Jewish community has offered to post $5000 bond for his return to Syria.

At the rally, attended by thousands, Rabbi Mitchell Serels described the plight of Syrian Jews, particularly that of a family in Aleppo, Syria. A brother of the family, now in Toronto and a Canadian citizen, has applied for their emigration visas. “A program for freedom” was presented by the students of the Canadian Youth for Syrian Jews of the Community Hebrew Academy, and the Canadian Committee for the Rescue of Jews in Arab Countries.

Three Jews were detained by police, and one of them was beaten, on the first day of Passover as they were standing hear the Moscow synagogue on Arkhipova Street, the American Jewish Congress said they learned today in a telephone conversation with a leading Moscow activist.
